I’m a licensed psychotherapist and certified psychoanalyst in private practice in Berkeley, California. I have over twenty years of experience and education working with a range of issues. I specialize in helping people who struggle with depression, anxiety, relationship and intimacy issues, drug and alcohol problems.

My work is grounded in the ideas and training of Contemporary Psychoanalysis because evidence based studies show that this way of working brings significant and lasting change.

I completed my training at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis (SFCP). This specialized and lengthy training is the most selective and comprehensive clinical education that mental health clinicians can undertake. It greatly deepens a clinician’s understanding of people’s character, emotions, thinking, actions and relationship patterns.  Education and Training matter and my ongoing commitment comes to bear on all of my work.

In addition to my work in private practice,  I am involved in teaching and supervising early career therapists and give lectures on a range of subjects including Addiction, Parenting, Spirituality, Expressive Arts and the Nature of Therapeutic Action.

While completing my graduate work in clinical psychology, I worked in a number of organizations. I provided school-based play therapy; facilitated groups for at-risk adolescents and caregivers whose family members had been diagnosed with cancer; offered individual psychotherapy for adults; and worked with men and women in outpatient and residential settings. I did intensive internships in Marin and Contra Costa county family service agencies, where I specialized in working with children, adolescents, and their parents. Through my education I have been grounded in psychodynamic and systems approaches to understanding children, adolescents, individuals and families.

Before entering graduate school, I had a successful career as an artist and entrepreneur in the business and design world. I spent several years living, teaching and working in Asia and the Middle East.
